Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is SingloTex™  safe for humans?

A. SingloTex™ dye coating is made from organic material and is safe in all respects for humans. The singlet oxygen that is generated from the dye is natural. Humans generate singlet oxygen themselves naturally.

Q. What microbes is SingloTex™ effective against?

A. Bacteria of all types are deactivated by the strong oxidative effect of SingloTex™ coatings. The coating even has the ability to kill dangerous Staph & MRSA —germs responsible for a range of illnesses from minor skin infections to life-threatening diseases

Q. How is SingloTex™ applied?

A. In the case of textiles, SingloTex™ is applied through our fabric dipping process. Since the dye sticks to the fibres of the antimicrobial shirt at the molecular level, only a very small amount of organic dye is needed.

Q. Is there any odour from the product itself?

A. None. In fact, unpleasant odours from sweat will disappear as SingloTex™ breaks down bacteria that cause them

Q. After it is applied, how long does it last?

A. The SingloTex™ dye permanently bonds to the fabric. After application, the patent-pending SingloTex™ functional coating becomes water-insoluble and will not come off. Singlotech products maintain antimicrobial efficacy even after repeated cleanings.

Q. Why do you not recommend nano silver coatings that other companies use to remove bacteria?

A. Simply because silver is toxic and dangerous in the environment. Unlike the silver metal in silverware, which is only mildly reactive, ionic silver, derived from silver nitrates and other silver salts, is a known toxin and acts as a poison. It is a widely recognised biohazard in all aquatic systems, poisoning lakes and drinking water. Silver is more toxic to aquatic organisms, including fish, than all metals except mercury. SingloTex™ is safe because it is composed of a very small amount of organic dye that uses light to activate and kill bacteria. Silver, on the other hand, like lead and mercury, is a bio-accumulative toxin. As of November 2008, nano-silver was banned from consumer use in the European Union.

Q. Is SingloTex™ ever depleted?

A.  This process is catalytic, meaning that the dye is NOT used up and keeps on generating singlet oxygen (one molecule of dye generates approx 200,000 molecules of single oxygen per second!). SingloTex is the only technology that doesn’t deplete over time.

Q. How well does the dye apply to different textile fabrics?

A. SingloTex™  has been already applied to cotton, bamboo, nylon, polyester, hemp, rayon and acrylic and should be able to be applied to many more materials for testing.

Q. How is SingloTex™ different from other antimicrobials out on the market today?

A. Singlotech’s patented dye incorporation technology provides a novel method to deposit water-insoluble dyes onto or into various substrates in a mild and efficient manner without the use of organic solvents.  By rendering water-insoluble dyes “transiently water soluble” and eliminating the need for organic solvents to dissolve them, not only is the integrity of the substrate uncompromised but the removal of organic solvents from the process, along with their potential toxicity and need for disposal, constitutes a safe and environmentally friendly process. This is known as “green” chemistry.

Q. Is the SingloTex™ treatment compatible with dyes, softeners, etc.?

A. The SingloTex™ treatment is perfectly compatible with other treatments. Singlotech can assist with product testing, which will evaluate the compatibility between the SingloTex™ treatment and your specific product.
